The Register....seems to be a little clueless on this one.
So little being reported on the forums which makes me sad and even less in the press..Jim Gamble is a bastard and those that have followed the McCann case know this. I have therefore placed a comment here from OBU blog and hope it gets noticed . We have also been reminded this was one case, the 'O'Shea' appeal and must not be downbeat about what the future holds for other victims who will live on to fight another day in the hope to clearing their name.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/12/06/operation_ore/
I really must challenge this statement: "In the majority of instances, where police seized computers from individuals in the UK, an amount of child abuse material was found – ranging from a few images to collections of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of images." According to whom? Gamble&Co? I expect better from El Reg.
Firstly, the "Porn Police" will classify anything involving children and nudity as "abusive" - including naturist beach pictures and even pictures from your own family album. And let us not forget that some people undoubtedly capitulated and admitted "guilt" for images that may have been considered "indecent" based only on the prosecution's "opinion". Secondly, there are vast numbers of scans of old magazines (and newspapers), that would now be considered "illegal", floating around cyberspace; in other words, not "hidden" away on secretive, nod-and-a-wink-members-only sites. Thirdly, since not everyone on the "list" was investigated (and I don't just mean the infamous 'protected names' - it would seem that a couple of thousand "ordinary" people have never been "visited" either) and a significant number of those who were investigated were NFA'd or cautioned/prosecuted solely for "incitement", I consider it wholly unprofessional to make such misleading statements.
It would also seem that most people are still oblivious to the fact that the majority of Landslide's participating sites were legal (or content unknown), and that therefore some people's details would have appeared on the database legitimately and for legal sites.
HOWEVER, there is absolutely no certainty that even legitimate transactions were recorded accurately. And even if they were recorded accurately at the time of the transaction, given the scale of hacking and fraudulently activity, how can anyone be sure that they weren't "accidentally" modified at a later time? As evidence of "joining an illegal site", the Landslide database is worthless and any convictions resulting from it are unsafe.
Now for something that I really enjoy.....a spot of gratuitous, but highly justifiable, personal abuse. The chief fuckwit himself added: "“These allegations are unfounded and sought only to undermine an investigation which led to the safeguarding of more than 154 children. UK policing, and formerly the National Crime Squad, has been unable until now to refute these theories publicly due to a desire not to unduly influence pending prosecutions.
“Whilst convicted offenders understandably wish to disassociate themselves from this type of offence in any way possible, the devastating impact of child abuse on its victims must never be forgotten.”" Ignoring his utterly predictable and hollow "but think of the children" spiel; 154 children rescued (the number varies).....so assuming that's one child "rescued" per perpetrator (unlikely in every case), that's 154 "hands-on" abusers out of 4000+ people investigated? Hmmm, not many considering the initial screaming media headlines and "horror" stories: "Over 7200 british perverts paid to join a global child abuse ring". Of course, SS, NPS etc were not in any way influenced by Gamble&Co's dangerous disinformation.....Basically, just do a little digging and you will see for yourselves what a load of crap he talks. The Americans stitched up Thomas Reedy for political gain (why do think that they only investigated a couple of hundred people out of a list of 35000 alleged subscribers. It's certainly not because of "limits of statute" - America is one of the most paedo-hysterical countries around.....do you really believe that they would have ignored thousands of kudos-increasing "kiddie-fiddler" busts? Well do you....?) and Gamble&Co saw an opportunity to 'raise their profiles' and promote their 'cause'. Hypocritical, dangerous, false scumbags.....the lot of 'em. So there

Police welcome rejection of child porn conviction appeal

Police have welcomed a ruling by Court of Appeal judges rejecting a conviction challenge by a Coventry man charged as a result of one of Britain's biggest online paedophile investigations.
Anthony O'Shea, 40, was sentenced to five months' imprisonment in November 2005 on two counts of incitement to distribute an indecent photograph of a child and three of attempting to incite another to distribute an indecent photograph of a child.
He appealed in November this year, but Lord Justice Stanley Burnton, Mr Justice King and Mr Justice Nicol - who stressed that O'Shea's case did not represent a public inquiry into Operation Ore - have announced that they were "entirely confident that the appellant was rightly convicted".
Lord Justice Stanley Burnton said O'Shea "was one of a considerable number of persons" charged with offences relating to child pornography: "They were accused of accessing and downloading child pornography through an internet website located in the USA called Landslide.
"In order to access that pornography, other than on a so-called taster page, it was necessary for the viewer to pay a subscription, and for that purpose to provide his credit card details and certain other information.
"When the Landslide operation was closed down by the American authorities, it was found that there were numerous credit card details belonging to UK residents."
The American authorities gave access to the Landslide computer, or copies of it, to the police in the UK: "Among those whose credit card details were on the Landslide computer were those of the appellant."
0'Shea's case at trial and at the appeal "was and is that he had never accessed the Landslide site, and that the entries on its computer attributed to him must have been made by someone else".
The appeal was essentially about "the contention that Landslide was contaminated by fraud such that the court must doubt whether the appellant was rightly convicted".
Dismissing the challenge, the judge said: "There is no real possibility that a reasonable jury, faced with the evidence we have considered, would not conclude that he was the person responsible for the transactions in issue. We have no doubt whatsoever as to the safety of his conviction."

Operation Ore press release from lawyer Chris Saltrese....
Press Release
6 December 2010
Operation Ore judgment ‘not based on the evidence’
Speaking on the dismissal of the appeal of Anthony O’Shea against his conviction in relation to Operation Ore, his solicitor Chris Saltrese said:
“This is a disappointing judgment but not unexpected.
“The Court of Appeal decided to hear a two week case in two days by not hearing the evidence.
"As a result, the Court overlooked the key issues in the written
submissions. It substituted its own version of the significant evidence.
“The Court's version did not include the core evidence on which the
appeal was based.
"The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee has recommended that the Government review the availability of independent specialist advice in court cases involving internet-related crime.
"The conduct of this case suggests that such a step may now be timely.
"Landslide was not a child pornography portal. It was an
internet-vehicle through which criminal webmasters processed stolen credit-card information.
“The evidence is clear but was overlooked by the Court.
"Obviously Mr O'Shea will have to consider the next steps in seeking to overturn his conviction.
“We would stress that we remain convinced that Operation Ore in general, and his case in particular, was seriously flawed and a miscarriage of justice.”

comprising a large body of written submissions.
4. The respondents did not address key issues in the submissions in
writing prior to the oral hearing.
5. The Court of Appeal declined to grant an adjournment requested by the appellant for this purpose and did not allow the evidence to be presented orally.
6. A detailed evidential critique of the Court of Appeal judgment will be made available in due course.
7. The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee produced its report on Personal Internet Security in 2007 having heard evidence in relation to Operation Ore.

Defiant father who broke photo ban at school nativity play was threatened with arrest
By Daily Mail ReporterLast updated at 3:13 PM on 6th December 2010
A father who tried to take a picture of his daughter performing in a school nativity play was threatened with arrest for 'breaching the peace'.
Lee Ingram had the police called on him when he told teachers he was going to defy their 'ridiculous' ban and photograph his daughter.
The 40-year-old father told the officers that he was not breaking the law - and guidelines say parents should be allowed to take pictures of their children in school productions.
Cameras banned: Imperial Avenue Infant School, in Braunstone, Leicestershire, have banned pictures at their nativity play (stock photo of a school production)
Lee's daughter, Ella, who was then five-years-old, was performing in the play in 2007 when he was threatened with arrest. This year his three-year-old son Jack will be taking part.
He said: 'It was completely ridiculous, I was extremely angry about it. It's simply not on to call the police just because a parent wants to take photos of his kids - that's taking it way too far.
'People sometimes laugh at you for saying that we are living in a police state, but we are. I only wanted to take a photo of my daughter in her school play, which everyone is saying I have a right to do.
'Everyone, that is, apart from this one teacher who is saying I can't. It's just an insane society that we are living in now.'
The school insisted they consulted parents before introducing the no photos rule.
Lee added: 'It's a completely normal thing for a parent to want to take photos of their child's nativity play.
'I went along with the ban for several years, but I felt I was losing out on recording important milestones in my children's lives.
'I tried to question it as I felt my parental freedom was being taken away. I told the school I opposed the ban and I tried to discuss it with them, but all I got was vague answers.
'I couldn't find any law against it, so in the end I just told them that I was going to take photos at the nativity.
'When I turned up, the first thing I saw was the police stood in the far corner of the school hall, obviously waiting for me.
'I asked them if there was any law stating I couldn't take photos of my child and they said they couldn't answer that, but that if I didn't stop I would be arrested for a breach of the peace.'
Mothers and fathers are allowed to take photographs at the school of children whose parents have given consent, but only after the performance has ended.
No photography: Imperial Avenue Infant School where Lee Ingram was threatened with arrest for trying to photograph his daughter
Lee said: 'I feel like I'm being demonised for wanting to have photos of my child's play.
'We seem to be living in an age of paranoia and over-reaction.
'It's disgraceful that I'm not going to have any memories of my son's first nativity. Taking a photo of him in costume afterwards is not the same.'
Mr Ingram fell foul of the rule in 2007 when he arrived at the school intending to take photographs of his daughter in a nativity play.
Headteacher Ms Pickering today defended the policy, which she said has been put in place to protect vulnerable children.
She said: 'It wasn't a decision that we took lightly.
'We have parents who want to photograph their children and those who don't want photos of their children to be taken and we have to walk a thin line and compromise to accommodate both.
'We think the experience the children have in the nativity outweighs the experience of having their photo taken.
'We have a policy at school and we're trying to have an amenable situation, taking into account the fact that there are vulnerable children at the school.'
Guidelines on taking photographs in schools have been published by the Information Commissioner's Office, which oversees the Data Protection Act.
They said the Act does not apply when parents and grandparents take photographs of their children and their friends during an event in school for use 'in the family photo album'.
The guidelines read: 'The Data Protection Act is unlikely to apply in many cases where photographs are taken in schools and other educational institutions.
'Fear of breaching the provisions of the Act should not be wrongly used to stop people taking photographs or videos which provide many with much pleasure.'

Operation Ore appeal dismissed
The judges have dismissed our appeal.
Chris Saltrese is about to issue a press release with
a critique of the judgment saying that it is in gross and
obvious error and that the judges have not read or
considered the evidence.
The immediate course of action appears to be an appeal
to the Criminal Cases Review Committee, which is the
course Chris is most likely to take.
As far as individuals are concerned, this is what we have
achieved:
1. It is now accepted that there was no Click Here Child
Porn banner on the Landslide index page, which was a main plank
of Operation Ore.
2. It is now agreed that there was credit card fraud, which
had been denied.
3. We can prove hacking.
4, We have identified criminal webmasters using stolen
credit cards to access their own web sites to obtain
commission from Landslide.

The Gagging of the GASPAR Statement
A police witness statement , held back from the investigation into the disappearance of three year old Madeleine McCann. This information, suggesting there may have been paedophillia among the group of British doctors would have proved vital to the case. Had this been someone black, Indian or from a Council estate they would have been brought in for questioning but the Portuguese police did not have the opportunity to question David Payne because by the time PJ had knowledge of this statement , the McCanns had their laywers Carter Ruck and David Payne along with the rest of the tapas 7 , were now under the McCanns protection. The media was gagged and still is , the British public would never find out... what disturbs me the most, ALL British reporters have seen this statement and yet they STILL let the McCanns lead them around by the nose..
A child disappears , a friend goes to the police expressing her concerns about what she thinks may be paedophilia among the group of friends and it is hushed up. The parents are pushing for paedophillia and tried to set up Raymond Hewlett as the man 'of interest' who knew what happened to Madeleine, at the same time they have a mantra ' there is no evidence Madeleine has come to any serious harm'.
Let us forget for one moment the cadaver dogs picking up on the McCanns apartment, Kates clothes, a small childs T.Shirt , Madeleines toy , cadaver scent found outside in a small patch of garden under the window, the car they hired after Madeleine disappeared. What exactly do Gerry and Kate McCann think a paedophile does to a three year old child?
http://steelmagnolia-steelmagnolia.blogspot.com/2010/12/express-have-deleted-blue-bag.html
Put all of this together with a 'MISSING BLUE TENNIS BAG' that Gerry McCann was seen with the afternoon of May 3rd 2007...(Gerry denies he ever owned such a bag) this bag disappeared the same time as Madeleine.... there is something very, very strange going on here.

Last Name: GASPAR
Forenames: KATHERINA ZACHARIAS
Age: +18

Address:
Postal Code:
Profession:
Telephone no.:
Date of Testimony: 16/05/2007
Number of Pages: 8
I give this declaration in relation to the McCANN family who are currently in Portugal. The McCANN family is composed of Gerry McCANN, his wife, Kate McCANN and their three children, Madeleine, age 4, and Sean and Amelie, who are twins and 3 years of age.
As is abundantly clear, Madeleine is not with her family presently, and has been missing for the last two weeks.
I will begin by explaining that I am married to Savio Gaspar and that we have two daughters. Ellen is almost 3 and Isabella is now one year old. I have been married to Savior for 11 years. I am a general practitioner as is my husband. I met my husband when we were (page 1) working together in Exeter, around 14 years ago.
In order to explain how we know the McCANN family, I would like to state that my husband knows Kate as both attended Dundee University between 1987 and 1992. At that time, she was Kate HEALY. I met Kate and Gerry at their wedding, in 1998, in Liverpool. Both Savio and I went to the wedding. As Savio was Kate’s friend, we were invited to the event.
From what I know, Savio did not know Gerry before the wedding. After this time, we became friends and about three times we spent weekend vacations together. I would say that we are intimate friends of Gerry and Kate.
I remember that in 2002 or 2003, Savio and I spent the weekend with Gerry and Kate in Devon. We maintained contact with one another via telephone.
In 2002/2003 Savio and I lived Birmingham and the McCANNS in Leciester.
In September of 2005, Savio, myself and Ellena, who at the time was 1 and a half years old, spent our holidays abroad, in Mallorca. We went (page 2) on holidays with Kate, Gerry, and Madeleine, who should have been around 21/2 years old, and the twins, who were only months old. I remember that I was pregnancy with Isabella.
On those holidays we also met Gerry and Kate’s friends.
There was a couple, whose names were Dave and Fiona, and whose family name was PAYNE, I think. I believe that they were married and had one daughter, 1 year old, called Lilly. I remember that on these holidays, Fiona was pregnant.
There was another couple, whose names were Tara and Stuart, and whose family name I cannot remember who were also on holiday with us. They had two boys, 1 and 3 years old, whose names I do not remember. I did not know these two families until the holidays together. As I recall, I think that David organised the holidays and we all stayed together in a big house in Mallorca.
We spend a week on holidays, however, the McCANN family, and the PAYNE family stayed for two weeks. I think that Tara and Stuart, and their two children, also stayed for only one week.
Two or three days passed in Mallorca where we relaxed (Page 3) with our children. Possibly around the fourth or fifth day abroad, I remember an incident that stayed with me. I tell this in this way, and afterwards I have thought many times about the incident that I am about to describe.
One night, on holidays, the adults—the couple aforementioned—were on a patio on the side of the house were we lodged. We had been eating and drinking.
I was seated between David and Gerry who were both speaking about Madeleine. I don’t remember the conversation in its entirety, but id did appear they were discussing a possible scenario. I remember David telling Gerry something like “she” (referring to Madeleine) “would she do this”.Upon mentioning “this”, David was sucking on one of his fingers, pushing it inside and outside his mouth, and with the other hand encircled his breast in a gyrating fashion over his shirt. This was done in a provocative manner and carried an explicit insinuation in relation to what he was doing.
I remember that I was shocked at this, and looked at Gerry, and also at Dave, to gauge their reactions. I looked around (page 4) as is saying “did someone else hear that, or was it just me”. Silence registered in all the conversations and after, we all began conversing again.
I never spoke to anyone about this, but always felt that it was very strange and not something that should be discussed or said.
Besides this, I remember that David once again did the same thing. When I refer to this, I want to clarify that it was during a conversation in which he was talking about an imaginary situation. I do not know of what. I believe that he was talking about his own daughter, Lily, although I cannot be certain. He put one of his fingers in his mouth and slide it in and out, and with the other hand, drew a circle around his breast in a sexually provocative way. I believe that he was referring to what Lily would do.
I believe that he did this later, during the holidays, but I cannot be sure. The last time, besides this, when I was with David and Fiona was several weeks after the holidays, when Savio and I were at a restaurant with Gerry, Kate, Dave and Fiona.
I am certain that he said or that he repeated the same gestures aforementioned, but it could have occurred in a restaurant in Leicester, however (page five) I believe that it was later in Mallorca. When I heard Dave asking is “she did this” a second time, I took it more seriously.I remember questioning whether looked at my children or the others in a different way. I imagined that he maybe visited Internet sites related to small children. I thought that he may be interested in child pornography on the Internet.
During our holidays I was more attentive at bath time after hearing Dave saying this.
During our vacation in Mallorca, it was the fathers who bathed the children. I had the tendency to walk close to the bathroom, if David was bathing his children. I remember telling Savio to be careful when he was there, in case Dave was helping bathe the children and, in particular, my daughter Ellena. I was very clear about this, as having heard him disturbed me, and did not trust him bathing Ellena alone.
When I heard Dave say that a second time, this reinforced what I already though in relation to his thoughts about little girls. During our stay in Mallorca, Dave and his wife, Fiona, accompanied by this daughter Lilly, took Madeleine (page 6) with them to sped the day together, and to give Kate and Gerry a bit of rest with the twins. At stating this, it is not that I was reoccupied with Madeleine’s safety, as she was also with Fiona and Lilly, along with Dave.As already referred to, I was only with Dave and Fiona on one occasion, after Mallorca. And I have not spoken to them since this time. In these last years, we have seen eachother, along with the McCANNS, on occasion. These occasions coincide with the children’s birthdays—a time when we get together.
The first time I hear the terrible news regarding the disappearance of Madeleine from the radio, my thoughts went immediately to Dave. I asked Savio if Dave was also on holidays with the McCANNs in Portugal but he did not know.
I watched TV to catch the overage of the notices and found that Dave was there. I saw him on television in the first days after the disappearance. At that, I believed that he was on holidays with the McCANNs in Portugal. Today, Thursday, the 16th of May, 2007, at 15H40, I gave DC Brewer a page containing 2 photographic images. I am going to reference these images as (ref KZG/1) (probably element) that may (page seven) be presented with my approval, if necessary. These photographs were taken during out holidays in Mallorca. In the photographs, Dave is wearing a white t-shirt and the woman in the photograph is his wife Fiona. The man that is holding the cup of wine in the photograph is Stuart. These photographs were taken whilst we were in Mallorca.

FBI give step by step guide to paedophiles....
FBI issues warning over Barbie 'Video Girl' which could be used by paedophiles to make child pornography
By Daily Mail ReporterLast updated at 2:52 PM on 4th December 2010
Parents are being warned that a new Barbie doll that features a built-in video camera could be used as a tool by paedophiles to make child pornography.
The Barbie 'Video Girl', which is on sale in the UK and the U.S., has a hidden camera in the chest and a small LCD screen video display in her back.
A 'cyber crime alert' from the FBI has said the doll, which went on sale in July, could be used to record footage used for distribution by paedophiles.
It said: 'FBI investigation has revealed instances where an individual convicted of distributing child pornography had given a Barbie doll to a six-year-old girl.Warning: The Barbie 'Video Girl' features a video camera hidden in a necklace and an LCD screen on the back
The document went on to cite the findings of another investigation which found 'examples where a concealed video camera had recorded child pornography'.
That camera did not involve a doll, FBI agent Frederick Gutt said, but the possible combination of the two in a single device presents concerns for investigators.
There have been no recorded incidents of paedophiles using the Barbie 'Video Girl' to prey on young children.
The alert adds: 'Law enforcement is encouraged to be aware of unconventional avenues for possible production and possession of child pornography, such as the Barbie Video Girl.'
Potential: The FBI has said there have been no cases of a paedophile using the device to record footage but warned parents and law agencies to be alert
Built-in: The camera is hidden in a 'necklace' on the front of the doll, which has been on sale since July
Video Girl can capture up to 30 minutes of footage and the video can be downloaded and streamed live to a computer. There is no indication it can be streamed directly to the internet.Streaming: Up to 30 minutes footage can be recorded and viewed diretly on a computer
The alert was written in the U.S. for law agencies only, but was mistakenly sent to media outlets in Seattle.
Agent Steve Dupre told CNN: 'It was an inadvertent dissemination of the document.
'There have been no reported incidents of this doll being used as anything other than as intended.'
William Porress, from Tacoma, Washington, said he would not buy one of the dolls for his six-year-old granddaughter.
'That plays into these people who prey upon our children's ideals. It frightens me.
'Oh, she would love it, but she's more important to me than a giggle on Christmas morning.'
A statement from Mattel Inc, which makes the doll, said: 'The FBI is not reporting that anything has happened. Steve Dupre from the FBI Sacramento field office has confirmed there have been no incidents of this doll being used as anything other than its intent.
'Mattel products are designed with children and their best interests in mind. Many of Mattel's employees are parents themselves and we understand the importance of child safety - it is our number one priority.'
The Barbie doll, which costs $49.99 (£32), is aimed at children six and above and has been nominated for the 2011 Toy of the Year Award.

Saved by "Near Death" Experience
--------------------------------
2. (C/NF) William Hague and DCM, accompanied by Hague's Senior Advisor Arminka Helic and Poloff Kirsten Schulz, met in Hague's House of Commons office March 19. Hague was upbeat about the Conservatives' prospects, arguing that the "near death experience" of actively contemplating a snap general election last August when Cameron was down in the polls had forced party members and leaders to unite. Prime Minister Gordon Brown having "bottled it (lost his nerve)," after a strong Conservative Conference and a well-regarded performance by David Cameron, had left the Tories with an "internal confidence" previously lacking, said Hague.
3. (C/NF) When the Conservatives are leading in the polls as they are now, Cameron has more latitude to attack the Government, said Hague, and their proposals are taken as genuine possibilities for the future, rather than carping against the majority. He said the Conservatives are "more likely to win than lose" the next general election which he suspects will be called in fall 2009 or spring 2010. From the Conservatives' point of view, added Hague, later was better. The longer Brown stayed in office, the more the public would tend to the view that it was time for a change and a 2010 election date would mean the Labour government will have been in power for thirteen years. Hague said the state of the economy would play a role and he suspected Brown's strategy would be to cast an economic downturn as international in nature and not the product of any of his actions. Hague said the polls showed the British public is "less hostile" to the Conservative Party and, while he is optimistic about Cameron's chances, said it is also likely the Conservatives will come to power as a minority government.Afghanistan
-----------
4. (C/NF) The DCM asked Hague how the Conservatives viewed Afghanistan, recognizing that Cameron believes policy toward that country will be at the top of his agenda. Hague said there was no great difference between the Conservatives and HMG when it came to foreign policy. There were skirmishes about the EU but otherwise there was agreement. The Conservatives, said Hague, "would be hard pressed to part with HMG policy where British troops are concerned." Thus any criticism of current Afghanistan policy would be muted. Hague said there was concern about marrying NATO and political goals. He mused that some expert on the country suggested that, at some future date, administrative control of Kabul and the North would be separated from the less plausible goal of administering the South, but he was not advocating such a shift at this, or any near, date.
National Security-----------------
5. (C/NF) The DCM asked Hague what he thought of Brown's national security strategy, which had been released the day before. Hague said it was "more a worthy list of goals than a strategy." Without having studied it in detail, there was little in it with which the Tories would disagree, said Hague. He thought Brown had not gone far enough. The Conservatives themselves are in the process of conceiving a national security strategy. They will call for an American-style National Security Council, not just the creation of a panel of senior advisors to inform the Prime Minister. Hague added that other domestic security initiatives launched by Brown, like the creation of a Border Service, were also thin. He said the Conservatives wanted to stop spending money on the creation of a national identity card, for example, and use that money to build a "real border and customs police where we actually track who leaves the
LONDON 00000930 002 OF 002
country."
Is the Relationship Still Special?
----------------------------------
6. (C/NF) The DCM asked Hague whether the relationship between the UK and the U.S. was "still special." Hague said he, David Cameron and George Osborne were "children of Thatcher" and staunch Atlanticists. Speaking more broadly, Hague acknowledged that this was a hard question to answer. Politicians, in his view, "sit at the top of the pyramid" of the general public and it is unclear whether the British people will maintain the network of ties to America that has sustained the special relationship. For his part, said Hague, he has a sister who is American, spends his own vacations in America, and, like many similar to him, considers America the "other country to turn to." Asking his Senior Advisor her views, Helic (who is Bosnian), said, "America is the essential country." Hague said whoever enters 10 Downing Street as Prime Minister soon learns of the essential nature of the relationship with America. He added, "we want a pro-American regime. We need it. The world needs it."

Innocent grandfather gassed himself hours after child porn police raided his home
By Daily Mail ReporterLast updated at 12:41 PM on 4th December 2010
A grandfather gassed himself just hours after child porn police raided his home - even though he was innocent.
Last night his widow launched a bitter attack on the police after hearing at an inquest how detectives who seized his computers found nothing illegal.
Michael Curtis's home was raided and three laptop computers seized after intelligence led officers to his address after he stumbled upon one indecent picture and viewed it for a matter of seconds.
Amateur photographer Michael Curtis who gassed himself in his car shortly after child porn police raided his home
Coroner Nicholas Gardiner was told Thames Valley Police would not have brought any charges against Mr Curtis after finding no evidence on his laptops.
The investigation on July 28 was led by Interpol intelligence from Luxembourg after Mr Curtis innocently viewed the picture in March, 2009.
Mrs Curtis had told the inquest in Oxford: 'It doesn't matter what you write on the death certificate, I know you're going to write down he took his own life but he didn't. His life was taken that morning when those police officers arrived at the house.'
The inquest was told that four officers turned up to Mr Curtis's house in Banbury, Oxfordshire, at 9am with a warrant under the Child Exploitation and Welfare Protection Act to seize his computers.
Detective Sergeant Howard Berry told the coroner: 'There was no evidence but there was intelligence. Police in Luxembourg traced access to the website to the address.
'A picture had been viewed which was of an illegal nature. Intelligence came to police through international channels. Then there was a decision to investigate further and the warrant was issued.'
Mrs Curtis, together with sons Simon and Paul and daughter Jennifer, said after the inquest: 'The police effectively took Mike's life. They may as well have shot him.
'The police when they turned up to the house treated him like he was guilty and treated him exactly like they would a convicted paedophile.
'I don't understand how accidently looking at one single picture for a matter of seconds in March 2009 has filtered down into an investigation in July 2010.
'They must have known he didn't look at any other pictures or visited any other website afterwards. Surely they can come to the conclusion he stumbled upon it?
'He would have been totally shocked by these claims. He would have been thinking about what people would think and what would he tell the people he worked for.
'I want people to know he is innocent and did not do anything wrong.'
An hour after police had left the house, Mr Curtis drove to a DIY store and bought piping and wiring before returning home and locking himself in the garage, the inquest heard.
Mrs Curtis discovered his body slumped in the driver's seat of his car after she had returned home from work.
He had left a note on the passenger seat which read: 'Hi Ruth, sorry, time to go. Of course I love you, Simon, Paul, Jenny, Cerys and Owen. The police have taken the computers.'
Mrs Curtis said he left bank account and shares details at the bottom of the note and signed it off with a sketch of the family.
Coroner Nicholas Gardiner, recording a verdict of suicide, said: 'Whether or not the warrant was rightly issued is to be taken up elsewhere. Clearly it impacted on Mr Curtis and he had obviously spent time thinking about it and decided to take his own life, and that is how I have to record his death.'

WikiLeaks Sex Scandal: CASE OF THE BROKEN CONDOM

Julian Assange, spokesperson for WikiLeaks, wanted for Sexual Offences that include 'breaking a condom' during consensual sex.
It seems in Sweden you could be charged with rape if you are accused of not wearing a condom, breaking a condom, or running out of condoms. If you are a famous individual who ‘allegedly’ broke a condom on purpose, then you may even be wanted by INTERPOL.
Has the world gone mad?
The entire Assange sex scandal turns out to be about condoms, and bizarrely enough, a claim that he deliberately put a hole in one.

Sex in Sweden
November/ December 2010 - The legal concept of rape in Sweden is being expanded, primed by Claes Borgström (representing the plaintiffs) and Marianne Ny (Chief prosecutor). There are two very important changes taking place. The first is that people no longer decide if they have been raped, the government does. The second change taking place is that nonviolent and consensual acts can be considered rape.
Sex with out a condom in Sweden can land you in jail for a minimum term of two years.
James Catlin, barrister for Assange in London states, “Proposed reforms of Swedish rape laws would introduce a test of whether the unequal power relations between the parties might void the sincerely expressed consent of one party. In this case, presumably, the politically active Ardin, with experience fielding gender equity complaints as a gender equity officer at Uppsala University, had her will suborned by Assange’s celebrity. The prosecutor coming as she does from a prosecution “Development Unit” could achieve this broadening of the law during Assange’s trial so he can be convicted of a crime that didn’t exist at the time he allegedly committed it. She would need to. There is no precedent for it. The Swedes are making it up as they go along.”
Shame on Sweden
An award winning Journalist and activist is being accused of rape because of a broken condom after having consensual sex several times with many condoms before one condom broke. His crime? The condom broke in Sweden.Pope Benedict XVI was unavailable for comment.
Smear Campaign or Celebrity Hunters
There are two popular suspicions at this point, either Assange was set up by Sofia Wilén and Anna Arden as part of a ‘Honey Pot’ sting created by the CIA to discredit Assange.Speculation has arisen that Wilén, the ‘Honey Pot’ may have used Ardin as an unwitting dupe.
The other suspicion; Wilén, Ardin, and a couple of Swedish prosecutors are looking to gain some celebrity by all of this.
One can only hope the Hollywood version of the WikiLeaks Sex Scandal is as good as the Swedes.

WikiLeaks cables visualisation pulled after pressure from Joe Lieberman
US company Tableau Software admits request from senator made it withdraw graphics while Social Security Agency warns staff viewing cables could be 'criminal offence'
The company that provided visualisations of the contents of the leaked US embassy cables has admitted it removed them from the net at the request of Senator Joe Lieberman, the chair of the Senate homeland committee who has made angry denunciations of the leaks.
The removal of the visualisation came as the US Social Security Agency warned its workers that looking at the leaked cables could constitute a criminal offence.
Writing on the blog for Tableau Software, which offers free public visualisations for data, Elissa Fink writes that
At Tableau, Fliss said: "This will inevitably be met with mixed reaction. However, our terms of service were created to ensure responsible use of data."
But as with the US diplomatic cables data, which have now spread so far that they can easily be downloaded from Google or via the file-sharing service Bittorrent, the Tableau visualisations - and the blogpost for it - are still easily found on the net. Google's cache of the post from Tableau Software shows that the company was apparently untroubled on 28 November by its use: it included a copy of the visualisation that was created by Wikileaks, and acknowledged that "the release is controversial because the US government has strongly discouraged it". The issue of whether Wikileaks had the right to make the content available does not seem to have occurred to them at the time.
Comments on the Tableau post are generally against the decision: one says "thank you for making it easy to never use your software again. Companies who are unwilling to support free speech do not receive my support", while another asks "what if something even more interesting was found in the data through the interactive nature of your site, or what if it brought awareness to a particular data point that was public but obscured? I'm saddened to see that Tableau is not principled enough to explore new and interesting data."
Meanwhile the Social Security Agency has warned its employees about the dangers to staff of reading the cables:
Whether US companies will worry about the threat of Lieberman - and other politicians in and out of government - if they are asked to help out with future leaks remains to be seen.
James Ball, who created the visualisation, told the Guardian: "The Cablegate graphs Tableau pulled from their servers contained no information directly from US data. They gave indications of cables from each country, classifications, and subject tags (such as IMF, human rights or economic issue) - exactly like graphics published in print and online by the Guardian.
"The graphics could be easily reproduced using nothing more than data the Guardian has published on datastore. To pull these graphics - which had received over 2.4m visitors - merely because the Wikileaks website links to them; and a US senator issued a public (not private) complaint - smacks of cowardice and blind censorship.
"What makes it especially disappointing is Tableau had previously used user-generated graphics from the Afghan War Logs (by @rasga) in its customer mailout - and even blogged and tweeted when Wikileaks first linked to my Tableau graphics."
The removal of the visualisation came as the US Social Security Agency warned its workers that looking at the leaked cables could constitute a criminal offence.
Writing on the blog for Tableau Software, which offers free public visualisations for data, Elissa Fink writes that
"Our terms of service require that people using Tableau Public do not upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any content that they do not have the right to make available. Furthermore, if we receive a complaint about a particular set of data, we retain the right to investigate the situation and remove any offending data, if necessary."She adds:
"Our decision to remove the data from our servers came in response to a public request by Senator Joe Lieberman, who chairs the Senate Homeland Security Committee, when he called for organisations hosting WikiLeaks to terminate their relationship with the website."Lieberman, an independent senator who was re-elected in 2006 but is seen as close to the Democrats, persuaded Amazon to stop hosting the Wikileaks site on Wednesday. He said then that "[Amazon's] decision to cut off WikiLeaks now is the right decision and should set the standard for other companies WikiLeaks is using to distribute its illegally seized material. I call on any other company or organisation that is hosting WikiLeaks to immediately terminate its relationship with them."
"Earlier this year a large amount of United States government classified information was illegally released to the public website WIKILEAKS [sic]. The documents on WIKILEAKS could place military personnel and United States supporters in Iraq and Afghanistan at an increased risk of harm.
"Despite these documents being publicly accessible over the internet, the documents remain classified and SSA employees should not access, download, or transmit them. Individuals may be subject to applicable federal criminal statutes for unlawful access to or transmission of classified information."Lieberman's official page has not been updated to reflect his latest victory in trying to remove the leaked US embassy cables from the internet. But future WikiLeaks hosts may be more difficult to dissuade: the latest hosting service, Bahnhof, is centred in a bunker in Sweden.
WikiLeaks vanishes from web as US company removes DNS support
Everydns.net says attack against leaks site endangered other customers' service – effectively pushing site off the internet
The US today opened up a dramatic new front against WikiLeaks, effectively "killing" its web address just days after Amazon pulled the site from its servers following political pressure.
The whistleblowers' website is offline for the third time in a week, in what is likely to be the biggest threat to its online presence yet.Joe Lieberman, chairman of the Senate's committee on homeland security, earlier this week called for any organisation helping sustain WikiLeaks to "immediately terminate" its relationship with them.
On Friday morning, WikiLeaks and the cache of secret diplomatic documents that have proved to be a scourge for governments around the world were only accessible through a string of digits known as a DNS address.
Julian Assange this morning said the development is an example of the "privatisation of state censorship" in the US and is a "serious problem.""These attacks will not stop our mission, but should be setting off alarm bells about the rule of law in the United States," he warned.
The California-based internet hosting provider that dropped WikiLeaks at 3am GMT on Friday (10PM EST Thursday), Everydns, says it did so to prevent its other 500,000 customers of being affected by the intense cyber attacks targeted at WikiLeaks.
In a statement on its website, the free everydns.net service said that the "distributed denial of service" (DDOS) attacks by unknown hackers – who are trying to knock WikiLeaks off the net – meant that the leaks site was interfering with the service being provided to other users. That in turn meant that WikiLeaks had broken everydns.net's terms of service, and it cut the site off at 3am GMT on Friday (10PM EST Thursday).DNS services translate a website name, such as guardian.co.uk, into machine-readable "IP quads" – in that case 77.91.249.30, so that http://77.91.249.30 will show the Guardian site. If the DNS fails, the site is only reachable via IP address – but WikiLeaks has not yet provided one via Twitter or other means.
Everydns.net said that the attacks – which have been going on all week, and led the site to temporarily host its services on Amazon's more resilient EC2 "cloud computing" service – "threaten the stability of the EveryDNS.net infrastructure, which enables access to almost 500,000 other websites".WikiLeaks was given 24 hours' notice of the termination, and everydns said: "Any downtime of the wikileaks.org website has resulted from its failure to use another hosted DNS service provider."
The move comes after several days of WikiLeaks coming under a determined DDOS attack, apparently from hackers friendly to the point of view of the US government, which has disparaged the site's leaking of thousands of US diplomatic cables.
US companies have also come under intense political pressure to remove any connection to, or support for, WikiLeaks. Amazon ended its hosting of the cables on its EC2 cloud computer service earlier this week, but last night insisted in a blogpost that its decision was not due to pressure from Senator Joe Lieberman, who has called for the removal of the data – and who has influenced at least one other US company to withdraw support for WikiLeaks data.
In a blogpost late on Thursday, Amazon said reports that government inquiries prompted it to remove the data were "inaccurate".
Amazon said: "[Amazon Web Services] does not pre-screen its customers, but it does have terms of service that must be followed. WikiLeaks was not following them. There were several parts they were violating. For example, our terms of service state that "you represent and warrant that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to the content… that use of the content you supply does not violate this policy and will not cause injury to any person or entity". It's clear that WikiLeaks doesn't own or otherwise control all the rights to this classified content. Further, it is not credible that the extraordinary volume of 250,000 classified documents that WikiLeaks is publishing could have been carefully redacted in such a way as to ensure that they weren't putting innocent people in jeopardy."It noted that:
"When companies or people go about securing and storing large quantities of data that isn't rightfully theirs, and publishing this data without ensuring it won't injure others, it's a violation of our terms of service, and folks need to go operate elsewhere."But as commentators have pointed out, that stance is contradicted by the fact that Amazon has previously hosted the "war logs" from WikiLeaks which contained data about the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Connecting to WikiLeaks is presently not possible until it gets a new DNS service. WikiLeaks itself said on Twitter that the ending of DNS services was allegedly due to "claimed mass attacks" and called for further donations to "keep us strong".
